Whangaroa Harbour wedding // Northland Photographer Jess Burges

Part one.

Where do I start with this wedding….this is a personal one for me as these two are family. The wedding was organised completely by Sjoerd for Inky over less than a matter of weeks. These two have been together as long as I have known them so it was so exciting to hear that they were going to get married, and even more exciting was that they were going to get married here in NZ.  So everyone went into organising wedding mode, we had to keep everything secret from Inky (even my shooting the wedding). Infact I was so scared I was going to put my foot in it that over the weeks I became to scared to even talk to Inky!!!

The day arrived and the with it, diabolical weather warnings, the biggest cyclone in many years was rapidly approaching NZ and due to hit that day, their wedding day. Freaking wonderful news for a photographer. Now I’ve shot many a wet weddings but I hadn’t shot in a cyclone and not in a place that is only accessible by boat! The cyclone arrived with high winds and threatened the wedding happening at King Fish Lodge, but luckily for all the swell in the harbour stayed relatively calm. Phew… it crossed my mind that Sjoerd might be at the King Fish lodge and Inky might get stuck on the other side of the harbour. As the morning unfolded the girls got ready in Kerikeri and caught the boat out to the lodge. Despite the wind, the rain, the cold air, wet camera gear it was one of the most perfect days for them both. The weather didn’t put a dent on the fact they had family come from all over the world and friends from afar.

Enjoy the photos….love jess x
